SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The first day of school at Bellevue Elementary in Syracuse will have to wait -- until water damage is fixed.
Students at all Syracuse city schools were slated to return to school for their first day Wednesday. Bellevue's first day has been postponed, the district announced today.
The school is cleaning up after a burst water pipe caused water damage to the building, a district spokeswoman said. The extent of the damage and how long it will take to clean up has not yet been determined, she said. The district expects to provide an update Wednesday morning.
Bellevue staff is directed to report for the first day of school, according to the district. Instead of meeting at Bellevue, staff will meet at the district's Professional Development Center at 1005 W. Fayette St. at the start of the day.
All other schools in the Syracuse City School District will open Wednesday as previously planned.
